Why Smart Timetable

Spend less time on spreadsheets and more time on teaching

Building a semester timetable by hand means weeks of juggling rooms, teachers and student groups — and one late change can undo everything. Smart Timetable does the heavy lifting and keeps every change safe.

  • A full timetable in minutes

Choose Fast, Balanced or Best Quality and the optimiser places every weekly class without breaking a single hard rule, then improves teacher and student preferences.

  • No double bookings — ever

Rooms, teachers, student groups, room capacity, equipment, laboratories, availability and travel time are checked every time anything moves.

  • Late changes without the panic

Drag a class to a new slot and see instantly whether it fits. Suggest shows free times and rooms; Undo puts everything back.

  • Plan first, staff later

Build the timetable before teachers are confirmed, then let Assign teachers give every class a free, qualified teacher — without moving a single class.

  • Handles real academic structures

Faculties, departments, programs, year groups, sections and course groups, shared lectures, combined classes, labs and tutorials.

  • Approve with confidence

Versions, a review and approval workflow, a quality score and a hash-chained audit trail show exactly who changed what and when.

  • Test ideas safely

What-If Simulation tries enrolment growth, a closed room or an absent teacher in a sandbox and compares the result with the live timetable.

  • Your data, on your campus

Everything is stored in one database file on your computer or shared network folder — no cloud account, no database server to install.

FAQ

Questions about Smart Timetable

Universities, TAFEs, colleges and training providers that timetable weekly classes — lectures, tutorials, laboratories, workshops and seminars — across rooms, teachers and student groups.

No. Smart Timetable keeps everything in one file on your computer. For a small team, put that file in a shared network folder and every computer can open it.

Yes. Download an Excel template for each type of data (faculties, departments, programs, rooms, courses, teachers, student groups, enrolments, availability and existing timetables). Compulsory columns are marked, and any row with a mistake is shown with a clear message before anything is saved.

Yes. Generate the timetable first, then use Assign teachers to give every class a free, qualified teacher, or choose a teacher for each class yourself. No class is moved.

Yes. Mark each teacher's weekly availability (for example not on Mondays, or evenings only), set workload limits and preferred days, and the generator respects them.

Open Licence in Smart Timetable, enter the email address you used to buy (or your order number) and your licence key (OBTT-…), then select Activate Online. Computers without internet can use Offline Activation with our activation page.

Yes. Select Deactivate Licence on the old computer, then activate on the new one. Each licence can be active on up to 3 computers at a time.

Smart Timetable asks for a licence key. Nothing is deleted — activate and continue where you left off.
